My Observations

While attending the Toastmasters International Convention. I had the opportunity to attend 27 Semi-final speeches. And here are some of my observations.

1. 23 of the speeches I observed I would consider club level
speeches. This would lead me to come to the conclusion
that most TM Districts select their winners based on
friendships,personal likes and dislike, and poor
knowledge of speaking skills.

2. Almost every contestant had no knowledge of how to
properly use the stage. Their movements were driven by
nervousness and poor practice skills.

3. Emotional connection is far more important that a
logical one.
